Adding Color and Value
Last week, you added a background to your name that reflected a place you like to go, an environment you've dreamed of visiting, or another location you'd like your name to travel to. This week, we are going to complete the final step of your name drawing by adding color! If you have colored pencils at home, please use them to add color to your drawing. If you do not have colored pencils, crayons work, but please do not use marker to color your drawing. Watch the video below and practice some colored pencil techniques before you get started on your drawing. Some things to keep in mind while you are coloring:
1. Hold your pencil at the end and apply light pressure for light areas and harder pressure for darker areas
2. Always move your pencil in the same direction - you do not want your colored pencil to become streaky or messy
3. Use black or a darker color to color the 3D portion of your letters (like the examples below)
4. Try adding value by including light and dark areas on your objects - consider mixing colors together!
5. Fill the entire paper with color
Send me a photo of your drawing when you are finished! You can email me a photo at [email protected] (with your name and homeroom in the subject line) or send a photo through Class Dojo messages. Have fun!
