Recreate a Famous Painting!
Hello 5th Grade. I hope that everyone is doing okay in light of everything that is happening in our city and our country. My thoughts are with all of you during this time. Please stay safe and be well.
For this assignment, you will be tasked with recreating a famous painting, sculpture, or other piece of famous art with things around the house. This can include you, your family, and pets! The Getty Museum in California has challenged people all over the world to complete this challenge and now you get to join in! You can read more about the challenge by clicking HERE . The 7th graders completed this challenge a few weeks ago and had tons of fun with it, so I wanted to give you an opportunity to give it a shot as well.
Steps for this assignment:
1. Find Great Art You Like: The only tools you need for this activity are your imagination and a picture of a work of art you like or find interesting. Do a Google Image search online for a painting you already know and would like to recreate, or search the Getty Museum's online collection of art by clicking here: https://www.getty.edu/art/collection/ If you are searching, you can enter search terms to see paintings of things you might have around the house, (for example, “portrait” or “dog”). If you have a certain unusual item that you think would work well—like a globe, a special outfit, hat, or even a melted clock —you can start by searching for that, too.
2. Recreate the painting using AT LEAST 3 Objects, Pets, or People. Any objects are fine: from a blank piece of paper to your most elaborate hat. You can stick to 3 and see what you come up with, but you’re welcome to use as many as you like. Use pets, family members, facial expressions and pay attention to lighting. You can even use food if you like! Click the example photos below for inspiration (but do not copy).
3. Photograph and send! Send me a photo of the original painting you used (tell me the name of the artist in your email) AND send the photo of your recreation. You can email the photos to me at [email protected] or you can send them through Class Dojo.
Looking forward to seeing your recreations!
