The Arts is a focus of IB’s Middle Years Program and provides students with the opportunity to experience the creative process from idea generation all the way through to the point of completion and reflection. Starting in 6th grade, students at Pulaski begin to create reflective, personal artwork based on unit themes. Students start the creative process by learning about relevant artists, making connections across disciplines and placing their work in context. While gathering background information to inform their art-making, students are also working to refine processes and build technical skills to improve their ability to visually communicate ideas. Just like many professional artists, students must complete all necessary research and planning before beginning their finished piece. Upon completion, students reflect on their learning and create goals to inform future art-making experiences. Click on the images below to learn more about each grade level.
